Do you remember that lovely 1980’s game called Simon? Red – Green – Green – Blue – Yellow – etc.! Well, Erik Raj has combined this concept with Articulation practice and whamo! Listen Close is here! Here’s how it goes down…
Simply choose a sound and then a position (or mixed which is an awesome addition!)
There will be a countdown and then you will see the mouth of a child open. They will say a word and you will repeat the sequence. Each time, a new word is added to the sequence and the student must remember the string of kids and words. I have my students repeat the word after they tap the child.
When you make a mistake, you are shown your score and the High Score. We typically get 5-7 “rounds” in which is at least 15-28 reps per game. It’s highly engaging and very motivating for the students. This is also a great app to recommend to parents who may want to do to practice at home. It’s very motivating and the whole family can participate and the student can easily complete the task on their own.
- Insanely motivating.
- Great for older students who have “done it all”.
- Inexpensive – $4.99!
- Colorful.
- 600 sound-specific words.
- “Mixed” words option is great.
- Perfect for use/extra practice at home.
Improvements:
I would use this app for carryover of articulation for students on my caseload.
I would love this app in speech therapy with older students! I do a lot of “speedy speech” and this app would work great for that model!!
This app would be great for those students who have “done it all” and need something new to energize those practices. I can see it fitting in very nicely with my older elementary crowd!
I would love to have this. I love Erik’s newsletter and his apps sound awesome. I work with kids K-12 with a caseload of 75 so I am sure I can use this with several students.
I must admit I already own this app, but would love an iTunes card, etc.! I use Listen Close with my hard to motivate middle school students. They love it!
I would love to have this app. I have several students who I know would love it and it would work great for them
I would use it to spice up therapy with my sixth graders. Eric Raj is a cool SLP!
I would use this app for articulation quick drill to promote carry over- it is fast and repetitive to build habit- also for auditory memory of non-related words.
I’ve read such great reviews of all of the apps! This app would be great to use for my 5 minute days!
I would use this app with my son, to help him practice during the week till he gets back to his speech therapist.
I have so many kids I could use this with! Looks fun!
Always looking for new things to do for my artic kids. This would go nicely in centers.
Wow!! This sounds so motivating and fun!! I do 5 minute kids artic therapy and this sounds like a great activity for fast paced repetitions. Awesome!
I think this would be great to use with my 5 minute kids as a reinforcer after practicing for the week.
This app sounds great! I would love to try it with my students!
I already have this app and I love it! I used it today with a student who has difficulties hearing the difference between /l/ and /r/. We worked on this to listen to /l/ words.
I would use this app with several of my groups who are getting tired of the same types of activities and would like something different.
I’d use this app as a warm up with my older students!
This is great for discrimination and I would love to use it with some of my groups of /r/ kids!
I’d love this app for my students!
